💻 Firebird Tech Fund - Help Us Replace Our Classroom Projectors
Right now, every projector in our classrooms is about 10 years old. Anyone who has sat through a flickering, dim, or completely frozen screen during a presentation knows these machines are on borrowed time. We have 39 projectors across campus that will eventually need replacing, and this year we are asking our community to help us fund the first 6.
Why doesn't the school just pay for this?
This is a fair question, so here is the simple answer. Charter schools like BASIS Phoenix are funded mostly through per pupil dollars from the state. That funding is what covers the everyday costs of running the school: teacher salaries, curriculum, utilities, and basic operations. It is a set amount per student, and it is stretched to cover a lot.
What that funding typically does not include is room for big equipment purchases like classroom technology upgrades. Projectors, once installed, are expected to last for years without needing extra money set aside for their replacement. When 39 of them start reaching the end of their life around the same time, that cost falls outside what the regular school budget can absorb in a single year. That is where we come in.
Our plan
Instead of asking for all 39 at once, we are tackling this in manageable rounds, about 6 projectors a year. This year, our goal is to raise $10,000 to purchase this year's set of 6. It is a real investment, and it is one we can only make with the help of our parent community.
